Swedish Air Force Survival Training
Major Per-Arne Klingström, Aeromedical Centre (Training Section), Swedish Air Force
The Survival Training for Aircrew in the Swedish Air Force is determined by the MIFS Regulations. The acronym stands for "the Man In the Flight System: Survival". Topics included in the Regulations are:- Physical Training, Aerospace Medicine (physiology, psychology and odontology), Parasail, CSAR, Centrifuge Training and Hypobaric Chamber Training.
The Training Section of the Aeromedical Centre (AMC) in the Swedish Armed Forces has the responsibility for the MIFS Regulations and the carrying out of the training. Two Physiology Training Officers (also pilots) at the Training Section conduct the training. The philosophy in the Swedish Air Force is that pilots instruct pilots. This holds for all topics in the MIFS Regulations (e.g. pilots who are Flight Surgeons, Physiology Training Officers, Survival Instructors, etc.).
